Issue #7: Why Is It Always That Day?
This Week In My Wardrobe: From Coffee Runs to Confidence, How Your Style Shapes Your Life, and the 2025 colour trends that will transform your closet.
It never fails. The day I throw on the “I’m-just-grabbing-coffee, please-don’t-look-at-me” outfit is always the day I run into the most fascinating people. There I was last week, wearing jeans I hadn’t washed in… let’s just say a while, and a hoodie that could only be described as aggressively unflattering, when I bumped into someone I’d been dying to meet for months. As we chatted, I kept thinking, Why today? Why not on a day when I’m dressed like the fabulous, polished stylist that I am?
But of course, that’s how the universe works. It’s like some cosmic reminder that style isn’t just about looking good, but feeling ready. And I wasn’t ready. I felt like I was shrinking under the weight of my not-so-great outfit, trying to rely solely on charm (and hoping they wouldn’t notice my old favourite trainers).
If there’s one takeaway, it’s this: dress like the life you want, even if it’s just to buy oat milk. The world doesn’t stop because you’re in a mood.
And while we’re on the subject of things that don’t stop, let’s talk about the world’s obsession with body commentary.
Why, oh why, do people think it’s socially acceptable to tell me how skinny I am? “You’re so thin! You need to eat more!” they say, like I don’t own a mirror or know my way around a sandwich. But here’s the thing, if I turned around and commented on their weight in the same way, I’d be the villain in every conversation.
It’s like we’ve all silently agreed that “skinny-shaming” is fine, but other forms of body commentary are off-limits. Let me just say this loud and clear: It’s not fine. None of it is fine.
As a personal stylist, I see firsthand how much appearance impacts women’s confidence. It’s our #1 source of shame. And while I believe in helping women look and feel their best, I also know how delicate the topic of bodies can be. That’s why I approach it with respect, kindness, and an understanding that what we wear is deeply tied to how we feel about ourselves.
So unless we’re about to compliment someone or genuinely uplift them, let’s keep our opinions about their body to ourself. We’re all walking our own paths, and none of us needs unsolicited commentary weighing us down.
Take Care of Your Appearance (Because It Matters)
You don’t need to be a fashionista or spend hours obsessing over your wardrobe. But you do need to look like you care. Style starts with taking care of your body, the canvas, (nutrition, exercising, well-established sleeping routine) and continues with choosing clothes that make you feel confident and ready for whatever life throws at you.
Looking intentional doesn’t mean wearing designer labels or chasing trends. It means showing up as the best version of yourself, whether that’s in a perfectly tailored blazer or your favorite vintage dress. Because when you feel good in your clothes, you carry yourself differently, and that confidence is what people notice first.
Now, let’s talk wardrobe philosophy:
Wear your clothes – You cannot shop your way into great personal style. Shopping is not therapy. It's about knowing what you own and how to use it. I always tell my clients to have a clear overview of their wardrobe, and clean out/edit it at least twice a year. Having an app like Pinterest with a personalised Ready-to-Wear Lookbook by seasons to help you visualise all the possibilities is a game-changer.
Shop your closet first – Before buying anything new, shop in your own closet. You can always recreate looks instead of splurging on new items. And it’s okay to get inspiration from trends, but please don’t copy them exactly. If you do, you’ll never feel like yourself in your clothes. Authenticity is key.
Investing in understanding your body and how to style your wardrobe is always a smarter move, both in the short and long run, it’ll save you more than just money and time, it’ll save you from the sheer panic of staring at a closet full of clothes and thinking, What the hell am I going to wear today? Especially when you’ve got that important meeting or event where looking good isn't just a choice, it’s essential. There’s nothing quite like the rush of walking into a room knowing you’ve got your outfit on point. It’s power, it’s confidence, it’s the you that you’re ready to show the world. Knowing what works for you means you’ll always feel confident and put together, no stress required.
5 Unpopular Opinions About Style & Styling
1. Neutral wardrobes are overrated.
Yes, beige is chic, but life is too short to look like a Pinterest board every day. Inject some personality with colour, it’s like therapy for your closet.
2. Expensive doesn’t equal better.
A perfectly tailored high-street dress will always outshine a designer piece that doesn’t fit quite right. Invest in alterations, not just price tags.
3. Trends are fun but fleeting.
Sure, the latest micro-trend might look great on Instagram, but if it doesn’t align with your personal style, and your body type, skip it. Your wardrobe should work for you, not the algorithm.
4. Leggings are not trousers.
They’re comfortable, yes, but outside of your living room, or the gym, they need a partner, a chic oversized shirt, a blazer, or something (if you are going to make an outfit out of them avoid hoodies unless you are heading to the gym).
5. You don’t have to love fashion to have great style.
Style is about self-expression, not obsessing over every runway. You just need to know what works for you and stick to it. Style Personality counts ten times more than being trendy.

2025 Colour Trends: Add Some Life to Your Wardrobe
Now, if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that clothes are your first impression, and colour? Well, darling, that’s the mood you’re setting. 2025 is bringing us a riot of bold, vibrant hues, so it’s time to get excited and give your wardrobe a little personality injection. Here's the palette to watch, and how to make it your own with maximum impact:
Aquamarine: Think fresh, think calming, think of it as the perfect antidote to those dull days when the weather is anything but inspiring. Pair it with a bold orange for that zesty energy you didn’t know you were missing. It’s like the fashion equivalent of a double shot of espresso.
Yellow: Soft, pastel yellow feels like a warm hug from the sun. But don’t shy away from a little contrast. Pair it with Dark Green for a grounded, rich combo that feels like you’ve stepped straight into a Monet painting. It’s soft, but still packs a punch.
Deep Red: the ultimate power colour. There's nothing quite like the rush of confidence that comes with wearing deep red. For some extra drama and elegance, team it with Sage Green, a little contrast with a whole lot of sophistication. A showstopper look, for sure.
Pale Pink: Feminine, flirty, and effortlessly chic. Pair it with crisp White for an ethereal vibe that could’ve been plucked from a dream, or dare to pair it with Deep Red for a playful yet elegant twist that still feels classy enough for a soirée.
The key? Balance. Bold colours pop when they’re paired with softer tones, and your wardrobe? Well, it thrives when it reflects your personality, just like these combinations. Trust me, you’ll feel unstoppable, mixing the unexpected can always create something magical.
Here’s the thing: style isn’t just about clothes, but how you show up for yourself and the world. When you know what you want out of life, whether it’s a dream job, a new relationship, or simply more confidence, your wardrobe becomes your ally.
There’s no one-size-fits-all recipe for dressing for success, but I like to think of my posts as a compass. Let me help you avoid the Jungle of Bad Taste, the Quicksand of Mediocrity, and the Big Bad Wolf of Nothing-to-Wear.
I can help you emphasise your assets, minimise your liabilities, and create the image you desire in less than a week. If you know what you want from life, I know how to help you get it, and I’ll make sure you look fabulous every step of the way.
