Style Isn’t Just What You Wear. It’s How You Show Up for Life.
I once knew a woman, my literature teacher, who could turn a street corner into a runway, not because of what she wore (though, trust me, she wore it well) but because of how she moved through the world. Confidence was her co-star, elegance her signature, and resilience her best-kept accessory.
She taught me something I’ve never forgotten: style isn’t just about looking good, but being good at life. The way you stand, the way you step forward even when the path is unclear, the way you wear your story like couture, tailored, intentional, unapologetic.
And now, as spring unfurls like a silk scarf caught in the wind, I have one question:
Are you wearing your life well?
There are moments in life that spark something in us, books that stay with us, conversations that change us, stories that remind us who we are. Watching Meghan Markle’s new show was one of those moments for me.
Suddenly, I wanted to become again.
Not to copy Meghan, not to dress like her or live a life that isn’t mine, but to become more of myself. To host friends at home, to set beautiful tables, to create warmth and connection in my space. It reminded me of when I had an orchard, when I used to make salads straight from my garden, when life felt rich in the simplest, most organic ways.
And it made me wonder, when did we forget how beautiful the little things are?
Meghan’s show is about joy, about curating special moments, about creating beauty just because. And yet, the criticism has been brutal. I don’t get it. For once, there’s something on TV that isn’t about drama, war, betrayal, or destruction. It’s about peace. It’s about doing cute things again.
And I love that. are you with me on this one?
Why Meghan Markle’s Style Works. And Why Copying It Won’t Work for You
Let’s be honest: the Meghan Markle effect is real. The woman wears a sweater, and it sells out in minutes. She mixes high and low fashion like an artist, making a Zara trouser feel like couture.
But here’s the real secret, it’s not about the clothes.
It never was.
If style were just about wearing the right brands, anyone with a credit card could be stylish. But true style, the kind that turns heads, sparks conversations, and leaves a mark, is about storytelling.
And the best storytellers don’t copy. They curate. They refine. They become.
People Buy Into Emotions, Not Just Products.
Meghan doesn’t sell us clothes. She sells us a feeling. She makes a knit sweater look like quiet luxury, a polished blazer feel like modern power, a simple white shirt seem like an entry ticket to an aspirational life.
That’s the secret. People don’t just buy clothes, they buy the emotion attached to them.
So instead of asking, “Where did she get that?” ask yourself:
“How do I create my own version of that feeling?”
Because the way you dress isn’t only about you, it’s about how you make others feel too.
• Your (future) husband – When he sees you walking toward him, does he see a woman who knows her worth? A woman who moves with confidence, grace, and quiet power? Because that’s the kind of style that turns admiration into devotion.
• Your children – Do they see a Mum who is polished yet approachable? Someone who embraces fashion but never at the cost of warmth? A woman who shows them that taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of others?
• Your Boss – When you walk into that room, do they see someone who belongs there? A woman who doesn’t need to overdo it, who can command respect without saying a word?
• Your friends – Are you the woman who shows up looking good, content with your body, the one who inspires others to put a little extra love into how they present themselves? The one who makes a simple café meeting feel like a scene from a Parisian film?
• Your past self – If the younger version of you saw you today, would she be proud? Would she see a woman who became? Who found her style, her rhythm, her way of moving through the world with intention?
Because at the end of the day, style is a language. And every time you get dressed, you’re telling a story.
Make sure it’s one worth listening to.
And the easiest way to start this season? Prints.
SPRING/SUMMER 2025: THE PRINTS THAT MATTER & HOW TO WEAR THEM LIKE YOU OWN THE ROOM
Spring is the season of transformation, and our wardrobes should take notes. Let’s talk about the prints that deserve a front-row seat this season, the ones that don’t just decorate us but define us.
Spring apart from a season, it’s a mood, a shift, an opportunity to reinvent.
But don’t just wear them, curate them. Make them part of your personal language.
This is my selection of the best ways to add freshness to our wardrobes this season. Whether you’re ready to make a bold statement or just want to elevate what you already own, here’s how to make prints work for you without trying too hard or spending a fortune.
1. Nautical Stripes: For the Woman Who Commands the Room
Stripes aren’t just a pattern; they’re a direction, they sharpen your silhouette and your presence. They say, I know where I’m going, and I look incredible getting there.
• Pair with crisp white trousers for a polished, European feel.
• Wear them in unexpected colours, navy and white is classic, but red and cream? That’s power.
2. Florals: Only If You Can Handle the Contrast
Florals alone can be sweet, but sweetness alone is forgettable. The key? Pair them with something unexpected.
• A delicate floral blouse? Tuck it into boyfriend jeans.
• A flowy floral dress? Ground it with structured boots or a sharp blazer.
Make it clear: you’re not here to blend in.
3. Vichy (Gingham): Innocence Meets Rebellion
Vichy print has a soft, nostalgic charm, but let’s not get stuck in picnic territory. The magic is in the contrast.
• A Vichy dress? Make it edgy with bold gold jewelry and sleek hair.
• A gingham top? Pair it with wide-leg trousers and an attitude.
4. Zebra: Because You Weren’t Born to Be Subtle
Forget leopard, zebra print is where bold elegance lives this season. It’s graphic, it’s commanding, and it demands presence.
• Keep the silhouette sleek, zebra is already loud, so let it do the talking.
• Mix with neutrals to let the print breathe or add a pop of colour for drama.
5. Polka Dots: Playful, But Make It Sophisticated
Polka dots are fun, but don’t let them wear you. Elevate them.
• Go for a fitted silhouette, no frills, no fuss.
• Keep accessories sleek, too much whimsy, and you lose the edge.
6. Diplomatic Stripes: For Women Who Mean Business
Sharp, sophisticated, and utterly in control, diplomatic stripes mean business. This isn’t a print, it’s a statement.
• Wear them in a structured blazer for an instant power move.
• Try them in unexpected colours, deep green, yellow, or even metallics.
This season, I’m leaning heavily into florals and zebra print, two extremes that somehow feel completely natural to me. Florals bring out that effortless, feminine charm, while zebra makes a statement without saying a word. They both fit seamlessly into my wardrobe, giving me the freedom to style them up or down without overthinking.
Stripes, on the other hand? A little trickier. They can be incredibly chic, but if you’re not aware of your proportions and body type, they might not always work in your favour. Horizontal stripes can widen, vertical stripes can elongate, and diplomatic stripes have an energy that requires the right balance. If you know how to play with them, they’re powerful, but if you don’t, they can feel awkward.
So, while I appreciate the sharpness of stripes and the playfulness of polka dots, florals and zebra are where I feel most at home this season. They allow me to express different sides of myself, softness and boldness, romance and confidence, all while staying true to my personal style.
Which of these prints speaks to you the most this season, are you drawn to bold zebra, classic stripes, romantic florals, or something else entirely? Tell me in the comments, Cow Print is also a thing …
CREATING SPACE: IN YOUR CLOSET, IN YOUR LIFE
Making space is not just about clearing out last season’s trends, but clearing out the fear of standing out, of taking up space, of being seen.
You don’t need more clothes. You need more intention.
• Buy less, but choose boldly.
• Wear patterns that mirror your energy.
• Let accessories tell your story before you even say a word.
Because here’s the truth: Style is all about stepping up, not blending in.
WEAR THE STORY, NOT JUST THE CLOTHES
The women we admire, Meghan Markle, Audrey Hepburn, Victoria Beckham, don’t just dress well. They embody something greater. Elegance. Confidence. Mystery. Intelligence.
So this season, don’t just shop trends. Curate your story.
• Wear prints with intention.
• Pair pieces that contrast, that say something about who you are.
• Don’t just dress, become.
Because the best style isn’t copied. It’s created.
And that is how you leave a mark.
Until next week,
Carolina X
