What if the version of you you’ve been searching for… isn’t new at all? Issue #20
Here’s the thing I’m starting to believe ...vehemently. And stay with me here:
What if she’s been there all along, in that fabric you loved, that colour you felt most alive in, that outfit that made you dance, that story you read over and over when you were little?
Something funny happened this week.
I remembered exactly when I fell in love with clothes.
Clients often ask me, How did you get into this? And for the longest time, my answer was just a casual, Oh, I’ve always loved fashion. Which is true, but also wildly incomplete.
Because it wasn’t until recently, in the middle of a quiet night filled with music and herbal tea, that the full picture came into focus.
I was feeling a bit stuck with my own wardrobe, the irony of being a stylist, I know, and decided to do for myself what I do for others. I turned the music up (Cold Little Heart, then Follow the Sun), lit a candle, and just started playing. Mixing pieces. Twirling in front of the mirror. Reconnecting with that younger version of myself who used to dress like every day was a performance.
And then it hit me: she never left.
I was the little girl who refused the copy-paste First Communion look and wore a Pamela hat instead. The one who showed up to birthday parties in a purple fur coat when she was six. Who chose to play Victoria Beckham at school not because she sang the most, but because she looked the coolest.
That wasn’t just childhood fun. That was the beginning of something.
A language. A purpose. A calling.

And today, four years into my personal styling business, still juggling, still learning, still pushing forward as a single mum of two boys (one of whom now has me revising non verbal reasoning, help). I’m seeing what that seed has become.
Because it’s not about just clothes. But transformation.
When a woman steps into her style with confidence, it changes everything. Her posture, her energy, her voice. Her life.
And that same energy, I’ve learned, can show up in the smallest of moments.

A Pause in the Fabric
Have you ever touched something, velvet, silk, warm bathwater, and, just for a second, everything else paused?
Lately, I’ve been exploring what it really means to be present, not in the buzzword-y way, but in the deeply felt, here-I-am kind of way. And one of the most powerful tools I’ve discovered is… texture.
Soft fabric. Skin against skin. The weight of a coat on your shoulders.
These tiny, physical sensations can pull you out of the whirlwind and plant you firmly in the now.
Since reading The Power of Now, I’ve started noticing how style, texture, fabric, movement, can actually be a mindfulness practice.
Because when you’re fully in your body, you’re not just getting dressed. You’re arriving.
So here’s a little experiment:
Next time you’re rushing through the day, stop for ten seconds. Touch something soft. Feel it fully. Let it remind you that you are here. That you are alive. That your body is an honor to live in.
It won’t fix everything. But it might shift something.
And honestly? That shift, that return to presence, to self, to joy, is everything.
From Play to Purpose
I’ve realized that what started as play has grown into purpose. What felt silly as a child, mixing outfits, making bold choices, is now how I help women transform.
So if you’ve ever felt like your passion was “just a hobby,” or you’re still waiting for that magical moment of purpose to arrive… maybe look a little closer.
It might already be in your hands. In your memories. In your wardrobe.
In a velvet sleeve. A silk dress. A moment of stillness.
It’s never too late to find your thing.
And you don’t have to have it all figured out. I don’t. I’m still walking the path, learning on the go. But I know this: I’m getting closer every time I follow what lights me up.
Here’s to purple coats, Pamela hats, presence, and playing dress-up, again and again.
With love,
Carolina X
